The elections team at Elections Daily can project that Glenn Youngkin, the outsider and former CEO, has won the Republican nomination for Governor. The outsider of the race has surprised all and will emerge victorious at the convention. Youngkin has a huge personal fortune that he spent on this race. But, he was doubted at multiple turns. Most thought he wouldn’t succeed in a convention and then most thought the poor turnout would have also meant his demise. In the end, he pulls it out and will be headed to the general.
This lines up with our most recent article, which suggested that Youngkin had the momentum going into the convention. We have no rating change due to Youngkin winning the nomination in the Virginia Governor’s race; we’ll keep it at Leans Democratic for now. But Youngkin’s nomination puts to rest – for now – the threat of a disastrous Amanda Chase candidacy, providing an easier path for downballot Republicans.
