Campaign Diaries: Nikki Haley (December 4-10)

December 4

A quiet day for Nikki Haley was she gears up for the debate.

December 5

The Haley campaign reported on the grassroots campaign that they say is very successful. Its spotlight has been on those pounding the pavements and handing out leaflets, such as Women for Nikki in Texas. The campaign also reported how helpful the endorsement of the powerful Americans for Prosperity Action group was.

December 6

Tonight was the big fourth Republican debate- you’ll be able to read my review of it soon. Issues commented upon by Haley were her relationship with big business and bankers, Iran, home ownership for young people, China, immigration controls, the border and George Washington. She received vigorous attacks from Ramaswamy in particular, with DeSantis chipping in every so often. In one case, Ramaswamy held up a sign saying “NIKKI=CORRUPT.”

A poll of Iowa voters showed Haley coming out on top, but Donald Trump seems to have won the night despite not showing up.

December 7

Haley once again put the spotlight on an article criticising Ron DeSantis’ relationship with Wall Street money. In an interview on Fox News, Haley reiterated that she is beating incumbent President Biden by 10-13 points.

December 8

Haley attacked DeSantis again.

Haley was in Iowa today, with her tour hitting Sioux City.

December 9

Haley was in the prettily named Clear Lake, Iowa today as part of her swing through the state. She was joined by daughter Rena Haley Jackson.

December 10

Haley finished her three-day Iowa tour in Waukee.

The debate dominated this week for Haley-and the other campaigns. Haley’s campaign crowed about how well she was received, but there’s still a long way to go if she wants to beat Donald Trump, and even Ron DeSantis. With the first caucus in sniffing distance, it’ll be all guns blazing- her trip this week to Iowa won’t be her last.
