Campaign Diaries: Nikki Haley (September 11-17)

September 11

Nikki Haley released the following statement on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11:

“Twenty-two years ago, the soul of America was shaken in a way we had never felt before. Terrorists came into America and murdered thousands of our citizens on our soil. We will never forget the precious lives lost and the heroes who emerged—the firefighters who rushed into the towers, the airline passengers who gave their lives to save others, and so many who showed their courage on that terrible day. Today, we have a new generation of young Americans who did not live through the horrors of 9/11. It’s our job to remind them that real evil exists in this world. The strength of America will prevail when we remember we are not immune from countries that want to destroy us. In spite of the horrors of 9/11, what followed was the best of the American spirit. Americans rallied and united. Men and women, including my husband Michael, enlisted to defend our freedom and defeat evil. We saw a strong and proud America that refused to cower. Some say our nation is too divided and will never come together like it did in the days following 9/11. I refuse to believe that. The American spirit is alive and well—we just need to tap into that spirit and remember how even on our worst day we are blessed to live in America.”

Haley was on Fox News radio today. Issues discussed included China and the border crisis.

On CNN, Haley talked tough on cartels and stated that we need to treat them like terrorists, a claim echoed by other candidates such as Ron DeSantis

Haley criticised a deal announced by the Biden administration that would allow a prisoner swap and release of $6bn in frozen assets.

September 12

Haley discussed Iran and parental involvement in education. She also attended a Women for Nikki event in Atlanta, Georgia.

September 13

Haley took part in an interview with Tudor Dixon, the former GOP candidate for Governor of Michigan in 2022. The interview appeared on Dixon‘s podcast.

Haley was endorsed by businesswoman Emily Schmitt, which you can read about here

The Daily Wire wrote about how Haley believes that China has already infiltrated America, and how the leaders are “asleep at the wheel.”

September 14

Haley received an endorsement from Ralph Norman, a Congressman from South Carolina.

September 15

Haley did several events in the key state of Iowa.

A new scorecard from the Institute of Legislative Analysis gave Haley the top score for limiting government against other Republican candidates. She scored seven As and three Bs, with a general score of A-. You can read about it here

Polling has Haley at 6.1%. Competitor Ron DeSantis seems to be plunging down, whilst Donald Trump remains safely ahead of the pack.

September 16

Haley attended more events in Iowa.

September 17

A quite day for Haley.

A generally normal week for Haley. Her poll numbers are creeping up, but she still remains in fourth place by quite some number. With Trump’s comments on abortion, vaccines and LGBT issues angering some Republicans, is Haley best placed to steal some supporters. We’ll have to see.
