Nikki Haley decried sanctuary cities and called for them to be defunded. In the United States, sanctuary cities are ones that generally do not work with the federal government in terms of immigration law. There are usually different types of sanctuary cities- some won’t use federal funds to prosecute illegal immigrants, some prevent federal employees from assisting ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and not asking victims of crime about their immigration status.
Sanctuary cities are controversial. Republicans are generally against them, including Haley. The death of Kate Steinle in San Francisco was one that caused many to question the policy, especially since the perpetrator had been deported back to Mexico five times before.
August 15
On the second anniversary of the Fall of Kabul, Haley said the following:
“Two years ago, the world watched in horror as Joe Biden withdrew from Afghanistan in a way that betrayed our allies and emboldened our enemies. Disaster followed. Thirteen American service members were killed, China grew increasingly aggressive toward Taiwan, Russia invaded Ukraine, and terrorists took over Afghanistan with the help of American equipment and supplies.
To date, no one has taken responsibility for the botched withdrawal. No one has been fired, and no one replaced. The families of the 13 murdered service members can’t even get basic answers about what happened. In a Haley administration, there will be no mistaking where we stand. Our allies will know we have their backs, and our enemies will fear American strength.”
Donald Trump was officially charged by a Georgia court today. The thirteen counts against him include “solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer.”
August 16
Haley received an endorsement from Iowa State Senator Chris Cournoyer.
She said this on the one year anniversary of President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act:
“The IRA is a communist manifesto filled with tax hikes and green subsidies that benefit China and make America more dependent on Beijing. While Joe Biden cozies up to Xi Jinping, American families are footing the bill for all this spending. As president, I will repeal Biden’s green energy handouts and make sure Americans are not dependent on China for vital goods.
It took Joe Biden a year, but even he admitted recently that the absurdly named bill ‘has less to do with reducing inflation.’ No kidding. Moody’s Analytics reports that American families are spending $709 more per month on everyday goods and services than they did two years ago. Even liberal economist Jason Furman admitted he “can’t think of any mechanism by which it would have brought down inflation to date.”
August 17
A senior Democratic strategist is reported to have said “if they nominate Nikki Haley, we’re in trouble.” This is said to have come from Biden’s closest allies. The Haley team have jumped on this quote and are presenting Haley as the candidate the Dems fear the most.
August 18
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was Haley’s ‘Comrade of the Week.’ This honour was given due to his role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act.
Haley is at 3.7% according to the FiveThirtyEight polling average.
August 19
Haley spoke at a gathering hosted by Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host. Discussions included racism and veterans.
August 20
Haley appeared on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream.
Nikki Haley went back to domestic issues this week, especially regarding Bidenomics. Whilst China did get a few mentions, Haley was pushing a domestic agenda. Her polling remains the same.
