Campaign Diaries: Nikki Haley (August 7-August 13)

August 7

Nikki Haley called on the Biddn administration to stop sending officials to China in the wake of Russia-China naval exercises off the coast of Alaska. She said:

“China is testing the United States, and Joe Biden is failing. Every time China crosses a line, Biden sends another administration official to Beijing to make nice—and make fools out of us. The only way to get China to back off is to deal with Beijing from a position of strength—not weakness.”

She also said about China:

“China has been planning war with the United States for years. This is no surprise; this didn’t just happen. This has been happening for years and presidents just haven’t taken it seriously enough… We need to be showing strength. This is in response to the fact that we and our allies have been doing exercises in the Taiwan strait near the South China Sea. What they are trying to do is intimidate us. We don’t need to fall for it, we don’t need to run, we need to continue to be strong. Biden continues to show weakness. He did that by sending Blinken, China came out and said it was a ‘great meeting.’ They said they would have committee meetings based on fentanyl flow. No, you don’t have committee meetings based on fentanyl flow, you say we will end normal trade relations with you, until you stop killing Americans.”

Haley was in Amherst, New Hampshire. Issues discussed included crime and education.

August 8

Haley was in Hudson, New Hampshire at a Politics and Prosecco event with Republican women.

She criticised the cost of back to school gear, a subject very much geared at an important demographic- the parent.

Former Iowa Republican politician Dawn Roberts endorsed Haley in an op-ed. Former Iowa Republican State Senator John Reagan also endorsed Haley.

August 9

Haley endorsed ending aid to Afghanistan. The country has been ruled by The Taliban for two years after a disastrous incursion in August 2021. She also criticised by Republicans and Democrats for record spending.

August 10

Haley signed a pledge that promised she would support the eventual Republican nominee in order to stop Joe Biden.

She was a guest on the popular podcast Ruthless.

Haley is at 3.6% according to polling today.

August 11

Haley was in Des Moines with friend and ally Joni Ernst, Senator for Iowa. The event was hosted by The Bastion Institute.

Her “Comrade of the Week” was Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen for watering down restrictions on investment in Chinese tech.

With the news that a Special Counsel was being appointed to investigate Hunter Biden, Haley said the following:

“I don’t trust it. I don’t think the American people trust it. I don’t think the American people trust the Department of Justice. I think this was meant to be a distraction, it’s not a distraction. I think the Bidens are on a sinking ship and I think this is our opportunity to make sure we not only get a new president in the White House, but that we clean house in the Department of Justice while we’re at it…

I think this is in response to the pressure that the Biden family is feeling. This is in response to the pressure the Department of Justice is feeling. What I would say is the House needs to keep their foot on the gas, keep this investigation going. Don’t let up…

And at the end of the day, this is exactly why we need a new generational leader in the White House. We need to get rid of all of this old powerful intrigue that is happening. We need to get rid of all the distractions. We need to get rid of all of the chaos. We’ve got to start focusing on real issues, like why China is planning a war with us, like why we’re $32 trillion in debt, like why we don’t have transparency in the classrooms and our kids are falling further behind, why we have open borders that are not being closed and why we’ve got national security issues left and right.”

August 12

Haley attended the Iowa State Fair, along with Governor Kim Reynolds. She seemed to make the most of it, partaking in many of the traditional activities and posing for selfies. Haley was joined by college-aged son Nalin.

Candidate Donald Trump made a short appearance.

Candidate Ron DeSantis appeared with his family and enjoyed the festivities.

Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy decided to perform his own rendition of Eminem’s classic ‘Lose Yourself.’

Candidate Mike Pence had made an appearance on Thursday and enjoyed the festivities.

Compared to the other candidates, Haley seemed to make the most out of the fair.

August 13

A quiet day for Haley.

Polling remains steady for Haley, but she is far behind main contenders Trump and DeSantis. She once again had China as her main enemy this week and continued to speak out against the nation’s leadership. On a lighter note, Haley proved herself an active participant at the Iowa State Fair.
