Campaign Diaries: Nikki Haley (July 31-August 6)

July 31

Nikki Haley was pushing against China once again today. She released a variety of plans regarding the nation’s influence on America.

To stop Chinese influence:

Expansion of policy proposals:

How to handle energy issues:

Fentanyl:

National security:

Science and technology:

Sanctions:

She also criticised the lack of faith in America’s military.

August 1

Haley received an endorsement in a newspaper.

She also saw her first ads come out.

Donald Trump was indicted on four counts by a grand jury in DC: conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. The maximum penalty is around 55 years.

August 2

Former New Hampshire state representative Kim Rice endorsed Haley in this article.

Another endorser said that they were proud that their daughter admires Haley.

August 3

A quiet day for Haley.

Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. As it stands, there is no law against him running, even if he is found guilty and imprisoned. He remains the leader in the Republican race, whilst Haley is down on 3.5%

August 4

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was announced as Haley’s “Comrade of the Week.” This is due to several Chinese companies basing themselves in the state.

August 5

A quiet day for Haley.

August 6

Haley was at a BBQ held by Iowa State Representative Ashley Hinson in Cedar Rapids.

Unfortunately for Haley, President Trump dominated the news cycle this week with his legal issues. Even more unfortunately, Trump has over 50% in the Republican polling. Haley’s focus on foreign policy remains strong, perhaps to the detriment of domestic issues. Whilst she’s clearly making key policy pledges and making her views clear, it’s not having the desired effect when it comes to polling.
